Dear All,
Irecommend Ron's comment to you. Of course any therapy or therapeutic device must start with your doctor.

I wanted to make a suggestion on your request. The afo must have a doctor's order and is usually evaluated by a physical therapist and then on to production through an orthotic company. The trail I believe must start with your doctor. THe PT will also help you. Good luck and keep the faith. Wishing you health and wellness

Elizabeth, I also used to believe that I was paralyzed. I too believed that because my left arm and hand are not functional. But after reading a blog by Peter Levine, section titled -How stroke survivors can be so wrong it hurts them - http://recoverfromstroke.blogspot.com/ Thursday, February 12, 2009, I have come to the conclusion that I have hemiparesis, muscle weakness on only one side of the body. He is also the author of the book , Stronger after Stroke. I actually have great movement, I can swing my arm back and forth and in front of and behind me, I can raise and lower my forearm. Once I grasp something with my hand I have a death grip on it. So I am trying to use these movements to start to get even more movement.

Hi all,
Yesterday I JUST GOT A NEW CUSTOM FITTED ARTICULATED AFO which also prevents side rolling of foot. It has already improved my walking. Ijust thought I'd let you know about this - the articulation allows for ankle movement and encourages a more normal gait.
Good luck to all

Ron,
You say you are dealing with mobility and dexterity issues. What exactly are you doing ie. what is your therapy regime?
Cheers

Ihad a right side blockage, but didn't realise the importance of the 3 hour window and didn't get TPA. i HAVE LEFT SIDE WEAKNESS, however I WALK with stick and sometimes without, but no movement in lefthand/arm. I am hopeful of recovery and working hard.

I got tPA within the hour but still ended up with left side paralysis. It probably prevented worse from happening, but I guess my brain cells were too fragile to hold out until the cavalry came to the rescue.
