Chris,
Thanks for writing to me. My mom has come a looong way from where she was. My brother and sister are in college so it is just my mom and I. I couldnt afford nurses to come in and take care of her so I have pushed her a lot. We bash heads a lot because I dont like her just sit around. Sometimes i feel mean but I work three jobs to try to support us and she cant just be waited on. However she gets my brother and sister to help her with things I wont do. The stroke has not been easy at all. And I am so thankful to God for keeping her alive because I would rather have her with her limitation then not have her at all. Right now I am just struggling because her extended insurance is up in Aug. and I need to find something for her now and I figure this would be the best place to reach out because someone may have experience the same thing. Thanks again for the comment and happy belated birthday. My moms is next week. She is turning 50 and is very upset about it because she says she doesnt want it because not all of her has made it to 50.

Chris,
WMy family and I were just featured on Lifetime Television's program Healthcorner TV. The feature was discussing my recovery, my Take Brave Steps book and included interviews with my wife and daughter with insights on coping with change in the family and caregiving. You can see the segment on the following link. Please let me know what you think. I was doing OK until they asked me about the role of love and family in my recovery and the emotions kivked in.

Hi Chris! I am exhausted! My brother had a heart attack Jan 24, and a stroke on Jan 31. My sister, his 27 yr old son, and myself are his caretakers. On top of that, my brothers wife has brain cancer. My brother, Greg, thank God, survived, is physically intact, but has Aphasia. We are all new to this so I am hoping to find some hope that there has been some recoveries. And How are you!??

God's Plan

All the lesson's of my life have taught me that my tiny human brain isn't equipped to understand the workings of God's plan, and I don't sp[end time trying. I do believe that nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's creation by accident. I don't always understand why things happen, but if it happened, it was part of God's plan and my job is to accept it, be grateful for the gifts I've received (like my life, daughters, music and this day) and move on along the path He lays in front of me.

If Life Hands You Lemons...

I'd be interested in hearing peoples stories about moving on after their stroke. In my case, I was a 47 year old musician, tennis player, bicycle rider, coach and Sunday School Teacher. By trade I was a network design and installation senior project manager for a technology engineering firm operating nationally from a NYC base. The stroke brought all that to a screeching halt, but little by little I've managed to recoup some of it, singing with a band and until recently teaching the religion cla… Continue
