Hello, I am a designer from London and am currently examining how design can provide solutions that humanise the difficulties associated with strokes, looking at the practicalities of post stroke equipment, and more importantly how it makes the user feel! I believe that with alot of current equipment is designed purely with physical and practical functionality in mind, neglecting how the user would respond emotionally when using it. If there are any particular aspects of post stoke life or exist…

Multiple Dimensions of Wealth
The Wealth of Positive Mental Attitude
Perhaps American psychiatrist Dr. Karl Menninger summed it up best when he said “Attitudes are more important than facts.” A positive mental attitude can serve as the cornerstone of your success as well as provide a strong, healthy foundation for all that you do in life. The riches of a positive mental attitude can be beyond comprehension. I would not be able to make this claim if it were not for being stricken by a devastating…

This last Wednesday I spent 3 hours over being tested by a neuro psychologist, It was an eye opener, I felt good about everything except for the test where they have what looks like a cribbage board with little steel pegs that are shaped like an 8 on cross section so they only fit one way one direction I could do it fine with my right hand but my left hand was bad news? I couldnt even hardly get the pins? The initial prognosis from a PT was I had Apraxia, but this guy seems to think it is more a…

I am very concerned at this so called "NATIONAL" health care we have one of the best systems in the world and do not need FREE CLINICS with 3rd world witch doctors? What is needed is Tort reform an people to get jobs............... I am now disabled for life but because of my desire for benefits vice $$$ I will be covered the rest of my life unless they get rid of it? If they try to fool with my benefits they better stand by as I am not afraid of anything anymore!

Honestly I was thinking learning to walk was really hard. This was accomplished in a week, I was so happy to learn that again. Knowing how things could be for me, reading other stroke and CPS patients. But when people tell me that I feel guilty that I don't have some problems worse. Still can't let go of the stroke, is it due to my post stroke syndrome??? All this is overwhelming but I get pushed over the apex by being uninsured. Yea it's so bad having these issues of what to not pay to get meds…

I want to give my love and gratitude to my wife and caregiver Patti. We just celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary. We were high school sweethearts and including the dating years preceding our marriage, we have been together for 37 wonderful years. It is difficult at times for a person to be both a spouse and a caregiver. It is a fine line. I want to pay tribute to all caregivers out there I believe they deserve credit for a job well done. A life altering event can be hard on a family but with…

I just joined a research study on ankle movement at the University of Minnesota so I got a fMRI and saw this huge black spot where my stroke was. I never saw any of my original scans so this was a surprise, it looked like 1/3 of the right half of the brain was dark. This was both depressing and hopeful since I have made pretty good progress so far, showing that neuroplasticity is working for me but depressing because I have lots of ability to pack into whats left of my brain. I have to remember…

My wife Patti and I were very excited to attend the Philadelphia Heart Ball. The evenings events raised over one million dollars for programs to support the American Heart Association. Their mission is building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. We had a great time and really enjoyed the evenings festivities. I'm working on getting a few photos posted soon.
